This is my first test post. It’s nothing special, really. I’m just going to ramble on about how I’ve just created this site, I have no idea what I’m doing, and will be learning on the fly – just how it’s supposed to be!
I just started a second block (I think…?) by hitting the enter key after the last sentence. I guess that’s fine. 1 paragraph = 1 block? Sure. Fine. Whatever works, WordPress.
I played around with WordPress a little bit back when I was in college getting a degree in software development, but that was a good decade ago (can you believe it?!? I can’t!!), and I have not touched it since. I seem to be a bit rusty! I’m also not very good at coming up with things to say. In fact, it’s taken me about 10 minutes just to come up with this post so far! Ridiculous! What am I even doing trying to create a dang BLOG site, of all things??? I don’t know. Maybe I’m just a glutton for punishment.
Here’s another paragraph block, just for funsies. I’ll just pick up where I left off. Kinda. I guess my goal for this site is to share what I know about diy’ing things. I’ve always been fascinated with how things work, with what makes them tick. And if they’re broken, why they don’t work, and how to fix them. I’m also rather cheap, almost always of the opinion “Why pay someone else when I can do it myself for WAY less!?” That has lead to me become quite adept at fixing just about anything.
I’ve actually spent the last couple years working as a full-time handyman. I had quit my cushy software development job after finally accepting that sitting at a desk all day was crushing my soul and destroying my body, and needed to find alternative employment asap! Sooo…. after taking a short 3 month hiatus from the workforce, I decided I should figure out what to do about that. I eventually decided to start a small engine repair shop. I got the ball rolling on that, and figured that while I waited for all the legal stuff to go through, I may as well just take whatever work came my way. As luck would have it, most of that work ended up being handyman stuff, and very little of it was small engine work. So now, two years later, I’m still playing handyman, and have done almost zero small engine work! Funny how that works, ain’t it?
I’ve recently realized that although I enjoy doing hands-on repair work myself, I find even greater satisfaction in teaching others how to do it. So here we are; a guy who has spent his life avoiding writing, is now creating a blog! I’ll get over it, I’m sure. I’ve been told I’m pretty ok at technical writing, so I guess there’s that.
Fun fact: I’m now up to 40 minutes on this one little post. I’d better pick up the pace moving forward! I’ve got a lot of information to share, and at this rate I just may be dead before it’s done!
You know, I should go ahead and end this before I bore y’all to death. Thank you for sitting through my ramblings, and remember to check back in every now and then for some posts that will actually be useful! Eventually I’ll get an email list and some social pages set up for y’all, but I ain’t there yet so just bear with me for a bit.
Y’all have a blessed day!
